Alleys in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Film and double-DVD for environmental education

Following Brandenburg the German federal region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has the most alleys on its territory. There are 4374 km of old alleys and one-sided lines of trees in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, protected by the German constitution and current law. Today alleys are threatened through damages and the change of their environment. In addition, the German Society for Roads and Traffic has published regulations for the protection against car accidents with trees that might mean the end to alleys as we know them today.

If we think of trees, we think of ourselves.
If the tree stays alive, we will stay alive.

„Fool for Trees“  - the film

Car accidents with trees happen more and more often and become increasingly dangerous in Germany, especially in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. On the other hand, it becomes more obvious that the alleys as we know them today will be destroyed within the next decades. The film portraits people from all over Germany who are concerned about trees in varying ways.

The film’s concept is a collage of individual portraits that are complemented by shots of the most beautiful alleys of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern displaying their partially alarming state of existence. The film states that the struggle for the maintenance of the East German alleys is at the end a question of principle values of human civilization.

„Alleys – About the trees on our roads and what they mean to us“ – the double DVD

The first of the two DVDs contains the film „Fool for Trees“ and additional features such as a making-of, an interview with the film director, and others.

The second DVD is designed as an educational material that provides interactive and multimedia content with additional information on the subject. It may support the educational work on environmental issues by short educational films of three to four minutes length, quizzes, and other features.
