Today young Europeans are offered ever-greater opportunities for personal development. At the same time they are confronted with diverse conflicts, challenges and burdens. Regional conflicts have varying origins, motive forces and manifestations. However, a comparative examination of other realms of experience can often lead to new ways of looking at one's own problems; new possibilities for their solution emerge and one-sided attitudes are modified.
We will develop a multimedia learning site which describes the causes and problems of conflict situations. But we also want to show how committed citizens can begin to resolve such conflicts. This will provide an interesting, significant and representative picture of European societies and illustrate the methods, which can be used in coming to terms with our own identity and that of others.
The target groups of the project are young learners in any context of political education, such as individual learners interested in the subject of conflicts and their resolution (especially from conflict regions themselves), as well as organised in learning partnerships, such as pupils and teachers in secondary schools, trainers and trainees in vocational schools and further education, or in adult education classes.
The complete learning environment was finished by the end of the year 2003 and is accompanied by an electronic guidebook for teachers. The use of the application was tested through a series of model seminars carried out by the project partners, and by virtual meetings between tutors, learners and political experts.
